  1. INTRODUCTION.

Salaam Development Center (SDC) is an independent, nonprofit and nongovernment organization that provides project management services and research. Development solutions, in the thematic focus area of livelihoods and climate changes, social development, protection and good governance based in Garowe-Puntland – Somalia.

SDC formed by multi-disciplinary Somali Experts whose objective is about providing insightful and objective analysis on a broad range of social issues, including conflict dynamics, peacebuilding, droughts and other environmental and Climate changes and resilience mechanisms are safe-nets mainly for the Youth, women, IDPs and poor rural communities. SDC design and manage development and humanitarian. Projects and programs supporting remote rural communities and vulnerable groups in urban settlements.

SDC has a fully-fledged research department that tackles a broad range of social issues and studies. Mainly on good governance and democracy, economic and social development, project monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), best agricultural practices, climate change, innovative farming practices and water technology.

SDC has partnered with various international organizations, UN agencies, and local institutions to roll out development programs and in designing and implementation of projects on community development and socio-economic transformation. We also work closely with several consultants, including the business community, agronomists, economists, environmentalists, civil society and research firms. Their experiences, diversity, expertise, discipline and gender bring together an adequate capacity for change.

JOB DESCRIPTION.

SDC is seeking to expand its human resources pool and grow business operations through hiring Business Development and Economics Officer responsible for ensuring the performance of Business Development and Economics. A Business Development Manager is a senior role, and as such has some important duties and responsibilities to fulfil, with both short and long-term goals to achieve.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Setting goals and developing plans for business and revenue growth.
  • Researching, planning, and implementing new target market initiatives.
  • Researching prospective accounts in target markets.
  • Pursuing leads and moving them through the sales cycle.
  • Developing quotes and proposals for prospective clients.
  • Developing growth strategies and plans.
  • Managing and retaining relationships with existing clients.
  • Increasing client base.
  • Having an in-depth knowledge of business products and value proposition.
  • Writing business proposals.
  • Negotiating with stakeholders.
  • Identifying and mapping business strengths and customer needs.
  • Researching business opportunities and viable income streams.
  • Following industry trends locally and internationally.
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts.
  • Reporting on successes and areas needing improvements.
  • Implementation of the Business Development and Economics in the Kobciye, programme. Including sourcing strategy, supplier selection and evaluation, quality management, customer relationship management, e-procurement introduction and promotion, performance measurement.
  • Setting goals for the business development team and developing strategies to meet those goals.
  • Researching and evaluating prospective suppliers, preparing budgets, cost analysis and reports.
  • Oversees adherence to contractual agreements, recommend amendments and contract extensions, advice concerned parties with respect to contractual rights/obligations.
  • Implement recommendations from internal and external audits assuring that corrective measures are placed in practice, when necessary.
  • Lead supplier relationships and performance to ensure that Suppliers adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and that there is precise record keeping.
  • Implementing corrective action plans (CAPs) in response to internal and/or external audit queries.
  • Preparing and submitting accurate monthly reports on time.
  • Supporting with developing and updating the procurement plans (assigned) as required.
  • Undertake any other task as assigned by the relevant Supervisor.

Competences.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in Business Development and Economics management mainly in humanitarian organization.
  • Ability to negotiate, establish, and administer contracts.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure with excellent analytical communication skill is a must
  • Ability to produce high quality progress report is a must.

Recruitment Qualifications.

  • Master’s degree in economics, commerce, business administration or public administration is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced degree in economics, commerce, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, or related functional area.
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali language is a requirement
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of procurement processes, policy, and systems.
  • Knowledge & experience of dealing with service providers and contractors’ management.
  • Strong IT skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and database familiarity.
  • Self-driven and motivated, able to work under minimum guidance.
  • Exceptional active listening and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong research, decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments.

 TIME FRAME.

The expected employment duration will be 12 months, with possible contract extension subject to satisfactory performance. Business Development and Economics will report to the Project Officer and work with the local community extensively.
