About Somali Women Association (SWA)

SWA is a women-led right based organization that operates in the northern Somalia, especially the Puntland regions. the organization was established in 1993 and is one of the most successfully women-led in Somalia with over 30 years of successful interventions that uplifted the lives of thousands of vulnerable Somali women and girls.

The organization has it headquarter in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia, and has several field offices in the cities of Bosaso, Gardo, Badhan, Galkacyo and Lascanood.  The organization empowers women and children to reach their full potential by lifesaving sustainable livelihoods, quality and equitable education, primary health care & WASH, democracy and human rights, advocacy and legal assistance.

Position Summary

The Project Assistant is responsible for supporting the effective implementation of project activities at the community level. Working under the supervision of the Project Manager and Project Officer, the role ensures smooth coordination with beneficiaries, community leaders, local authorities, and partner institutions. The Field Officer facilitates community mobilization, assists with beneficiary processes, supports monitoring and data collection, and ensures that safeguarding, accountability, and quality standards are upheld throughout project implementation. The position plays a key role in documenting field activities, reporting challenges, and contributing to the overall success of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day implementation of project activities in line with the approved work plan, under the guidance of the Project offcer and Project Manager.
  • Mobilize and engage target communities, community leaders, line ministries, and local authorities to create and sustain an enabling environment for project delivery.
  • Act as the primary link between SWA and target beneficiaries, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
  • Assist with beneficiary registration, verification, and documentation processes.
  • Collect feedback from communities, institutions, and beneficiaries and share it with the Project Officer and Project Manager for informed decision-making.
  • Support field-level monitoring, quality assurance, and data collection in collaboration with MEAL teams.
  • Document project activities, maintain proper filing and records, and gather photos, success stories, and other evidence of progress.
  • Provide logistical support during distributions, trainings, assessments, and community engagements.
  • Identify and report field-level challenges, lessons learned, and risks to supervisors for timely action.
  • Promote community awareness and participation, ensuring beneficiaries understand how to provide feedback and raise concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, protection, and accountability standards throughout project implementation.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in humanitarian or community-based programming.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work in rural and remote environments.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
